Let's Make a Zine: Workshop with Noah Hawkes on May 17 1-4 pm.
Through periods of political unrest, zines have been an avenue for people to speak up about discrimination, get information out there to help others, and express themselves when the rest of the world encourages silence.
What are zines? A zine, pronounced “zeen”, is a small DIY booklet similar to a magazine. However, they differ greatly from magazines; instead of promoting personalities and products, they are a community-focused art form all about encouraging authenticity, connections, and artistic joy. You don’t need to be an artist to make zines; all you need is your voice.
In this workshop, we will:
- Learn what zines are and a bit of their history
- Learn about different ways to make zines
- Look through examples of zines and topics
- Create zines together!
Zines hold the power to inspire others and inspire community. To engage in zine making is to engage your creativity and aim for better mental, emotional, and social health. Let's make a difference with our voices, let's make a difference with our zines!
Workshop fee covers art supplies provided to make a zine and 3 hours of instruction.
The class is on Saturday, May 17, from 1 pm to 4 pm.
All ages and all backgrounds are welcome.
This class will be held at Cambium.
1010 Duane Street, Astoria, OR 97103
